A pneumatic butterfly valve is a quarter-turn valve used to regulate or isolate flow, operated by a pneumatic actuator. It’s especially suited for handling large volumes of fluids or gases in systems where quick and frequent operation is needed.
Basic Components
Butterfly Valve:
1. Features a disc mounted on a rotating shaft.
2. The disc turns 90° to open or close the flow path.
Pneumatic Actuator:
1. Converts compressed air into mechanical motion to turn the disc.
2. Can be single-acting (spring return) or double-acting.
Accessories (optional):
Solenoid valves, position indicators, limit switches, positioners for remote operation and feedback.
✅ Advantages
-
Lightweight and compact design
-
Quick and reliable operation
-
Cost-effective for large-diameter piping
-
Suitable for throttling and flow control (unlike ball valves, which are more for on/off)
-
Low pressure drop when open
